About Maine CPA Directory
What this is
A complete, free directory of every certified public accountant with an active Maine license — 1,310 CPAs across 224 cities, the 251 licensed firms in those towns, and 856 licensees registered in other states or abroad. You can look anyone up by city or name without creating an account or paying anything.
Why it exists
Anyone with a preparer tax ID can charge to file your return. Only a CPA, an enrolled agent, or an attorney can represent you before the IRS if that return is ever questioned. The state publishes who holds a license, but the official lookup answers one name at a time and assumes you already know who you are looking for.
This site turns that roster into something you can browse by city. If you already know who you want, confirm they are on it in seconds. If you don't, tell us what you need and we'll make an introduction.
Where the data comes from
Every listing is built from the Maine Board of Accountancy's public roster of licensees, downloaded from the board's license search on September 25, 2026.
For each CPA the roster carries a name, a mailing city, a license number and a phone number; for each firm, a name, an address and the CPA the board holds responsible for it. We publish the names, towns and license numbers. We do not publish phone numbers or street addresses — for a sole practitioner those are usually a personal cell and a home — and we cannot tell you what a CPA charges or specializes in unless they tell us themselves.
The board also records expiration dates and any disciplinary actions. We do not republish either: our copy carries no disciplinary data, and expiration dates go stale the week a renewal deadline passes. Every profile shows the license number to search on the board's own lookup, where both are current. Confirm status there before you hire anyone.
Only active licenses are listed
We build from the board's list of active licenses, so a name you find here held an active Maine license on the date above. Anything not active is never written to the site at all — not hidden behind a filter. We also leave out the few remaining Public Accountant licenses: Maine no longer issues that credential, and it is not a CPA license.
We also never publish home addresses, ZIP codes or phone numbers. The ZIP the roster carries is used only to catch misspelled town names, never shown. Town is as precise as this site gets.
If this is your listing
You can ask us to correct anything that's wrong, add details the roster doesn't carry, or remove your listing altogether — no reason required, no argument. Once removed, you stay removed through every later refresh. Get in touch and we'll take care of it.
Who runs it
I'm Brooks Conkle, an entrepreneur and online creator in Mobile, Alabama. I built CPAsinAlabama.com (opens in new tab) first, for my own state — as a business owner I found it genuinely hard to track down a good CPA, with the information scattered across outdated and clunky government search tools. Then CPAsinFlorida.com (opens in new tab), and now Maine.

How it stays free
Browsing is free, always, and there's no charge to be listed — every active CPA on the state roster is here whether they know it or not. CPAs can optionally pay to upgrade a listing with a photo, bio, specialties, and contact details. On a few pages we also link to partner services and earn a commission if you sign up, always with a disclosure right next to the link. That's what keeps the lights on.
Upgraded listings are marked Featured and appear above the rest. Everything else is listed alphabetically by surname — we never quietly reorder the free listings based on who is paying, and a Featured badge means someone bought placement, not that we rate them more highly.
